My email does not work after installing or updating Norton Antivirus
Norton Antivirus 2001 can in rare cases create problems in conjunction with sending and receiving email after installing or updating the program. The problem resides in the fact that you suddenly can’t access the mail server anymore; the reason given is normally that you supplied a wrong username or password.
The problem is that Norton Antivirus mixes up the username and password and it can be solved by doing the following:
- Deactivate virus-scanning of emails in Norton Antivirus (please remember to close the mail program first).
- Re-establish the original settings for the mail server, username and password (see the articles on setting up your email program for guidance on this issue).
- Start the email program and verify that it is now possible to fetch emails with the re-established settings. Then close the program.
- Reactivate virus scanning of emails in Norton Antivirus.
- Start your email program and verify that it is still possible to receive and send email.
