Howto use Cute FTP to transfer files to the server

CuteFTP has been a loyal companion on many internet users desktop for many years, even if there is a price tag on 40 US dollars - but the functions are also very good. The program can be downloaded from here - and you get a free 30 day trial period before any money has to change hands.

When the program is started a window with information on the last connection will appear automatically - these settings can either be altered or you could choose "New" to create a new profile. Fill out the fields with the information you received in conjunction with the creation of your subscription. In the example it is the user "user" that is connecting to the server "gpserver.dk":

"Label for site" is just a descriptive name for the profile - it can in principle be "Website", "Work" or something completely different.

When the profile is filled out, right click with the mouse on the profile name in the tree structure to the right (it will be marked with blue), and choose "Properties". In the new window make sure that both "PASV Mode" and "Use firewall settings" are enabled. Otherwise you could have some trouble using the connection:

The it is simply a matter of clicking "OK" to close the "Site properties" and clicking "Connect" to actually connect to the server. Please notice that 3 successive connection attempts in a row with wrong password will result in a lockout of the account for 20 minutes. This is done for security reasons, if it happens simply wait 20 minutes and try again.
